I'm curious as to why all the local forums ( except ATZ )
keep their forums closed to non-members.
( ie: no viewing of topics )
It seems to me that if they want more members
then they should have their forums open for viewing
in order to attract new members.
Is this a sign of in-bred and close-minded administrators
- or what ?
What do you think ?
Well since you asked.....
No sign of in breeding or closed minded. Maybe the desire to attract new members isn't there. Some, including myself, just like to chat with, jab at, or argue with, a select few. Many of us have lives that dont center around forums. They probably dont want to be bothered with a bunch of forum jockeys with no horse in most of the races anyway. You know, the ones who will clog a forum up with everything they come across on the internet in a need to have some type of fulfillment in their lives. The ones who seem to want to join every forum and then complain that they are not run the way they want. Kinda like bumming a ride and then complaining about the driver. I'd assume that there are a huge amount of forums out there. I also assume it's pretty easy for one to start their own forum. So why would someone want to whine and complain about how a forum is run or moderated. Hey, if I don't like the food, I eat elsewhere. If you ask to sup at my table, dont complain if the breads too done.
I guess the skinny here is, if I didn't like the way a forum was run, I'd find another, or start my own. (Since you asked........)
Maybe they just wanna know who is lurking?

Thanks for your input BM . .
My response is marked with an ' > ' below:
FYI: I originaly composed this with my response in italics,
but this lousey Lefora format decided to do it all in italics.

> Then a chat room or a forum used as a chat room is what these folks need.
Many of us have lives that dont center around forums.
> And many don't.They probably dont want to be bothered with a bunch of forum jockeys with no horse in most of the races anyway.
> I'm not certain that an administrator can determine that prior to a new member even posting.
You know, the ones who will clog a forum up with everything they come across on the internet in a need to have some type of fulfillment in their lives.
> That's a subjective opinion. (one doesn't need to read everything)The ones who seem to want to join every forum and then complain that they are not run the way they want. Kinda like bumming a ride and then complaining about the driver.
> A forum and/or a chat room is for the benefit of all of its members - Not just the driver.
I'd assume that there are a huge amount of forums out there.
> And chat rooms as well.I also assume it's pretty easy for one to start their own forum.
> Not everyone has the skill and interest to start and maintain a forum. So why would someone want to whine and complain about how a forum is run or moderated.
> It's called criticism - some is constructive and some is not.Hey, if I don't like the food, I eat elsewhere. If you ask to sup at my table, dont complain if the breads too done.
> Well said - But we are not talking about a House Guest or a self-centered Administrator.I guess the skinny here is, if I didn't like the way a forum was run, I'd find another, or start my own. (Since you asked........)
> Perhaps that is one good reason for belonging to more than one forum or chat room.

"THEY" meaning who ?
If ( "they" ) non-members can't view a forum, because it is closed, how can they be lurking?
Point 1. Call it whatever name you choose. Whoever started the forum, chatroom, webpage, etc, etc, has the right to decide who can see it and who can't. Again, maybe they don't want more members. That's their right to do as they please, not everyone elses right to view it.
Point 2.Well maybe it's those folks who need to get a life outside cyber-world.
Point 3. They can often tell by ones actions on other forums, chatrooms, webpages, etc etc.
Point 4.Your right, one doesn't have to read everything. Just as one doesn't have to let everyone read everything.
Point 5. I guess a forum, chatroom, webpage, etc etc is for the benefit of whomever the creature of it decides. It's his/her right to decide, not ours.
Point 6. Then we should join one of them that cater to our needs better.
Point 7. Well not everyone has the skill to make a million dollars. Life sucks and is unfair sometimes. Live with it.
Point 8. I guess "in bred" is constructive?????
Point 9. Yeah, we all are pretty much guest of the forum unless we created it. Again, the one who creates it has the right to allow who comes and goes. We don't have the right to be a member/guest of any of them.
Point 10.There you go, visit the ones you like and stay away from the ones you dont.
Again, being a member/guest of these is not a right. You can't force someone to allow you to read, nor post on them.
I think you are losing the point of the subject BM . .

As well as your missing mine.
When Tellit was created, JC asked the members who were posting if we wanted a private or public forum.. Most of us chose private. The members and administrators choice in this was not to be rude but instead it just seemed like the best idea. You see, a few members of other forums were coming on tellit to read and then taking what was said there and arguing about it in another forum.. Most of us got tired of that. Spider, you know whats being said on Tellit, its the same thing you always complained about on Straight Talk so I dont see why it bothers you so bad that the forum is private.

I wanna read your forum!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

FYI: It doesn't bother me at all and that is not what this topic is about.
But since you brought it up .. Why, specifically, would you think it bothers me kr?
Is it because y'all were talking about me in a negative sense?
If anyone talks about me on another forum then it then becomes my business too.
I think you would agree with that.
JC made the right decision by allowing the forums membership to decide
. . and not her alone.
I applaud her for that !
That is the point of Objectivity and not subjectivity as BM is currently displaying.
But again, she did not HAVE to do that. It's her right to do as she pleases with her forum. Not yours, nor mine to make that choice. And that is the subject of my object.
{ This Lefora composing has got to be one of the worst on the internet. )

>> But 'the point'' IS that JC did do it and didn't arbitrarily decide for everyone else.
FYI: That's called 'Objectivity'.Not yours, nor mine to make that choice.
>> Of course. And that is the subject of my object.
>> Don't you really mean ? . . "That is the objectivity of my subjectivity" ?

Nope, not what I meant at all.

. . Whatever . .

I just thought it bothered you because this isnt the first time you have brought it up. Im sure people talk about me elsewhere too, I just quit worrying about it. If someone doesnt like me , they can talk all they want, Im not going to change their mind. Im sure things have been said about you on there, people talk.. If its not true then why worry about it? Just my opinion.

I prefer the word - "CONCERNED"
Not - "WORRIED"
There is a difference ya know.
Why be concerned then? However if your ever concerned about what I say about you just let me know. I'll be more than happy to tell you.
